The administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), Luis Roquebert, met with senior executives from Evergreen Marine Corporation to strengthen their commercial ties and explore new business opportunities.

During the meeting, Eng. Roquebert and representatives of Evergreen, one of the largest shipping companies in the world, discussed various topics of interest, including the evolution of maritime services and the development of port infrastructure aligned with the needs of new vessels. They also addressed the importance of tackling changes in trade and logistics in the region.

“Panama offers an attractive business environment and has world-class port infrastructure,” said Eric Wang, Executive Vice President of Evergreen Marine.

The businessman expressed his confidence in building a stronger foundation for future success. Wang concluded by affirming that they will continue working in collaboration with the AMP.

Max Florez, Director General of Ports and Auxiliary Maritime Industries (DGPIMA), stated that Evergreen continues to advance in its goal of decarbonizing its operations.

The company remains a leader in the maritime transport industry by implementing responsible practices and innovative technologies through its dual-fuel green methanol-powered vessels. “Panama must prepare to meet this new demand,” Florez acknowledged.

Currently, the shipping company contributes more than 2.5 million gross registered tons (GRT) to our flag. Panama registers three of the five largest GRT vessels of Evergreen Marine Corporation.

Ramón Franco, Director General of the Merchant Marine (DGMM), stated that “from the perspective of the Panama Ship Registry, Evergreen represents a valuable client with whom we have a strong and long-lasting relationship. They have modernized their fleet to meet current environmental standards,” Franco said.

The Evergreen Marine Corporation executives extended an invitation to Administrator Roquebert and his team to visit one of their eco-friendly “M” class vessels during its next transit through the Panama Canal. This initiative demonstrates the company’s interest in sharing its knowledge and technology with Panama.
